Here’s a classic recipe for a 7 Layer Salad, perfect for potlucks, picnics, or a refreshing side dish!

7 Layer Salad Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 large head of iceberg lettuce, chopped
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup cucumber, diced
  • 1 cup bell pepper, diced (any color)
  • 1 cup frozen peas, thawed
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (or bacon bits)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Salad Layers:

  • In a large, clear glass bowl (or a trifle dish), start layering the ingredients:
    • Layer 1: Place the chopped iceberg lettuce at the bottom.
    • Layer 2: Add the cherry tomatoes evenly over the lettuce.
    • Layer 3: Next, add the diced cucumber.
    • Layer 4: Follow with the diced bell pepper.
    • Layer 5: Sprinkle the thawed peas over the bell pepper.
    • Layer 6: Add the finely chopped red onion.

2. Make the Dressing:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sugar, and white vinegar. Spread this dressing evenly over the onion layer.

3. Top the Salad:

  • Layer 7: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the dressing.
  • Finally, top with the crumbled bacon.

4. Chill and Serve:

  • Cover the salad and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Before serving, season with salt and pepper to taste. You can also garnish with additional bacon or cheese if desired.
