How to Help Jasper Adjust & Thrive in Foster Care

1. Give Him Time to Trust

  • Since he’s scared, let him explore at his own pace.

  • Avoid loud noises or sudden movements.

  • Sit quietly near him, offering treats to build positive associations.

2. Soothe His Skin Allergies

  • Consult a vet for medicated baths or allergy medication.

  • Use hypoallergenic shampoo (oatmeal or aloe-based).

  • If he’s itchy, a cool compress can help.

  • Consider a limited-ingredient diet (food allergies often worsen skin issues).

3. Provide Comfort & Security

  • A soft bed in a quiet corner (away from high-traffic areas).

  • A snug-fitting shirt or recovery suit if he’s cold (since he’s shaved).

  • Calming aids like a Thundershirt, pheromone diffuser (Adaptil), or gentle music.

4. Gentle Socialization (If He’s Ready)

  • Slowly introduce him to new people and pets in a controlled way.

  • Reward calm behavior with praise and treats.

5. Watch for Signs of Grief

  • Loss of appetite, whining, or pacing could mean he’s missing his old family.

  • Extra cuddles (if he allows it) and a predictable routine can help.

6. Prepare for His Forever Home

  • Document his personality, likes/dislikes, and medical needs for adopters.

  • If he bonds with you, consider being his “foster fail” if possible!

Jasper is lucky to have you—thank you for giving him a safe place to heal. 💙 With patience and love, he’ll start to bloom again.
