Baked Italian Subs (Hot & Melty!)

Posted on July 25, 2025

🍖 Baked Italian Subs (Hot & Melty!) 🧀

Like a toasted sub shop sandwich, but crispier, cheesier, and baked to perfection.

🔹 Ingredients (for 2 large subs)

  • 2 Italian sub rolls (or hoagie rolls)

  • ½ lb sliced Italian meats (mix of salami, ham, capicola, pepperoni)

  • 6 slices provolone cheese (or mozzarella)

  • ¼ cup banana peppers (or pepperoncini)

  • ½ cup shredded iceberg lettuce

  • ¼ red onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 tomato, sliced

  • 2 tbsp mayo

  • 1 tbsp Italian dressing (or olive oil + oregano)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

  • 1 tsp grated Parmesan (optional)

🔹 Instructions

  1. Prep the rolls – Slice open the sub rolls, but don’t split them fully. Hollow out some bread if too thick.

  2. Make the sauce – Mix mayo, Italian dressing, and garlic powder. Spread inside the rolls.

  3. Layer meats & cheese – Fold meats into the rolls, then tuck cheese slices between layers.

  4. Add veggies – Stuff in peppers, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce.

  5. Butter & crisp the tops – Brush melted butter on the outside, sprinkle Parmesan, and wrap loosely in foil.

  6. Bake – 375°F (190°C) for 10 mins (covered), then uncover & broil 2-3 mins until golden.

🔥 Pro Tips

  • For extra crispiness, toast the rolls before filling.

  • Add a spicy kick with hot honey or jalapeños.

  • Make it a “sub casserole” by chopping everything and baking in a dish.

Serve hot with chips & pickles! 🥖🔥
