Here’s a simple method to make a delicious baked potato:

Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, bacon bits, etc.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the Potatoes:
    • Scrub the potatoes under cold water to remove dirt. Dry them thoroughly with a towel.
    • Prick each potato several times with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.
  3. Season:
    • Rub each potato with a little olive oil and sprinkle with salt. This helps create a crispy skin.
  4. Bake:
    • Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet lined with foil (for easier cleanup).
    • Bake for about 45-60 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and a fork easily pierces the flesh.
  5. Check for Doneness:
    • The potatoes are done when a fork can easily pierce through to the center. If they’re not soft, continue baking for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Cut a slit down the center, fluff the insides with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.
