Biscuits and Gravy Casserole

Preparation Time:

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 30 minutes
  • Total Time: 50 minutes

Difficulty Level:

  • Medium

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuits
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  2. Cook Sausage: In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Do not drain the fat.
  3. Make Gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the flour is absorbed. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly. Add the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Layer Biscuits: Cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters. Layer half of the biscuit pieces in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Add Gravy and Cheese: Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuits in the baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the gravy.
  6. Top with Biscuits: Arrange the remaining biscuit pieces on top of the gravy and cheese layer.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Add More Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy it warm!
