Biscuits and Gravy Hashbrown Breakfast Casserole 🍳🥓🧀

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 1 package (16 ounces) frozen shredded hashbrowns
  • 1 can (16.3 ounces) large flaky biscuits
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.

  2. Cook the sausage: In a large skillet, cook the ground breakfast sausage over medium heat until fully browned and crumbled. Drain any excess grease and set the sausage aside.

  3. Prepare the hashbrowns: In the greased baking dish, evenly spread the frozen shredded hashbrowns across the bottom.

  4. Prepare the biscuits: Open the can of flaky biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters. Scatter the biscuit pieces over the hashbrowns in the baking dish.

  5. Make the egg mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Pour this egg mixture evenly over the hashbrowns and biscuit pieces in the baking dish.

  6. Add sausage and cheese: Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the top of the casserole, then add the shredded cheddar cheese.

  7. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-40 minutes, or until the eggs are set, the biscuits are golden, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  8. Serve: Allow the casserole to cool slightly before slicing and serving.


Optional Gravy Topping:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • Optional: 1/2 cup cooked sausage crumbles

Instructions for gravy:

  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the flour and whisk until smooth, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Slowly add the milk, whisking continuously, until the gravy thickens.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. If desired, stir in sausage crumbles for extra flavor.
  5. Pour the gravy over the casserole just before serving.
