Bookcase

Posted on April 16, 2025

Adorable furniture flip that now has a brand new look.

bookcase

Found this cute two door barrister bookcase locally that was a bit banged up but nothing we couldn’t fix.

bookcase

First things first, we gave it a thorough cleaning with krud kutter and then rinsed with water and let it dry completely.

We then used our favorite sander, our 3 x 4 electric ray (I have a link and discount code) to sand away the old cosmetic issues and outdated stain color – complete with sanding swirls and drips from the manufacturer. This isn’t solid wood so we had to be extra careful not to use a harsh grit so it wouldn’t end up with patches.

We took out these rubber window guards and popped out the glass to be able to prime and paint the door frames without having to tape off the glass.

bookcase

We used shellac as a primer to seal the raw wood so there wouldn’t be any bleeding through issues and the paint color would be consistent.

After letting the shellac dry,, we lightly sanded and then used our favorite paint sprayer, the Fuji Semi Pro 2 and sprayed two coats of Paint Couture in Vintage Moss, making sure to lightly sand in between each.

Next it was time to add some legs. We chose short hairpin legs to give this piece a little bit of height

We decided to give the door fronts a little more design and cut some plywood to fit the glass opening, painted it then used decoupage gel and redesign with prima decoupage paper.

bookcase

Here it is with new black knobs and now it’s the perfect spot for those recipe books and can serve as an extra prep station.
