Cheesy Sloppy Joe Toast

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • ½ yellow onion, diced

  • 8 oz tomato sauce

  • 1 tsp mustard

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional, but recommended)

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for sweetness)

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 4 slices toasted bread (Texas toast or thick-sliced bread works best)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the beef & onions:

    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onions are soft. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. Make the Sloppy Joe mixture:

    • Stir in the tomato sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce (if using), brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

    • Simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.

  3. Toast the bread:

    • Lightly toast the bread slices until golden.

  4. Assemble & melt the cheese:

    • Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture over the toasted bread.

    • Top with shredded cheese.

    • Broil in the oven for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  5. Serve & enjoy!

    • Serve hot with a side of pickles or a simple salad.
