Here’s a classic and easy recipe for Chocolate Mousse that’s rich, creamy, and perfect for dessert!

Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients:

  • 6 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Melt the Chocolate:
    • In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped chocolate and butter. Melt over a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  2. Whisk Egg Yolks:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with half of the sugar (2 tablespoons) until pale and slightly thickened. Gradually mix in the melted chocolate until well combined.
  3. Beat Egg Whites:
    • In another clean bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining sugar (2 tablespoons) and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. Whip the Cream:
    • In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  5. Combine Mixtures:
    • Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture in three additions, being careful not to deflate the mixture. Then fold in the whipped cream until fully combined.
  6. Chill:
    • Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve chilled, optionally topped with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries.

Tips:

  • Variations: For a different flavor, you can add a splash of coffee liqueur or flavored extracts.
  • Storage: Keep the mousse covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
