Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  3. Combine the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Combine Everything:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  5. Scoop the Cookies:
    • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.
  7. Cool:
    • Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips:

  • Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
  • Customize: Feel free to add different types of chocolate chips (like milk or dark chocolate) or incorporate other mix-ins like coconut or dried fruit.
