Classic Homestyle Salisbury Steak

Ingredients:

For the Salisbury Steak:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Gravy:

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Creamy Garlic-Infused Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Salisbury Steaks:
    • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined. Form into 4 oval patties.
  2. Cook the Steaks:
    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, add sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
    • Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring to combine. Gradually add the beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir until the mixture thickens slightly.
    • Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until cooked through.
  4. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
    • While the steaks are simmering, place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
    • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add minced garlic, heavy cream, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
  5. Serve:
    • Plate the creamy garlic-infused mashed potatoes and top with the Salisbury steak and gravy. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, you can add grated Parmesan cheese to the mashed potatoes.
  • Feel free to use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version of Salisbury steak.
