Cream Cheese Coffee Cake ☕🍰

A rich, buttery coffee cake swirled with a luscious cream cheese filling and topped with a crunchy streusel—perfect for brunch, holidays, or anytime you crave a sweet, tender treat!

🍰 Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup (1 stick / 113g) unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs, room temp

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup (240g) sour cream (or Greek yogurt)

For the Cream Cheese Filling:

  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened

  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg yolk

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

For the Streusel Topping:

  • ½ cup (60g) all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup (50g) brown sugar

  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ cup (½ stick / 57g) cold butter, cubed

Optional Glaze:

  • ½ cup (60g) powdered sugar

  • 1-2 tbsp milk or lemon juice

📝 Instructions

1. Prep:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan (or 9×9″ baking dish).

2. Make the Streusel:

  • In a bowl, mix flour, sugars, and cinnamon. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Set aside.

3. Make the Cream Cheese Filling:

  • Beat cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth. Set aside.

4. Make the Cake Batter:

  • Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.

  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and sour cream, mixing until just combined.

5. Assemble:

  • Spread half the batter into the pan.

  • Spoon cream cheese filling over batter, leaving a border.

  • Dollop remaining batter on top (it won’t fully cover—that’s okay!). Swirl gently with a knife.

  • Sprinkle streusel evenly over the top.

6. Bake:

  • Bake 45-55 mins until a toothpick comes out clean (center may stay slightly soft).

  • Cool 15 mins before removing from pan.

7. Optional Glaze:

  • Mix powdered sugar and milk, then drizzle over cooled cake.

💡 Pro Tips:

✅ Room temp ingredients prevent lumps in the batter.
✅ Don’t over-swirl—just a few gentle passes to marble.
✅ Storage: Keeps 3 days at room temp or 5 days refrigerated.

Why You’ll Love It:

✨ Ultra-moist from sour cream.
✨ Creamy, tangy swirl balances the sweet streusel.
✨ Perfect with coffee (hence the name!).

Great for holiday breakfasts, baby showers, or dessert! 🎄☕

Want a nutty twist? Add chopped pecans to the streusel! 😋
