Creamed Cabbage and Ground Beef Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 small head of green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef:
    • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  3. Sauté the vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic for 2-3 minutes until softened.
    • Add the chopped cabbage and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.
  4. Combine the ingredients:
    • Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet with the cabbage mixture. Stir in the heavy cream, shredded cheddar cheese, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and everything is well combined.
  5. Assemble the casserole:
    • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  7. Serve:
    • Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy as a main dish or with a side of crusty bread or a fresh salad.

Tips

  • Add-ins: Add diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or carrots for extra flavor and nutrition.
