Creamy Shrimp and Crab Spinach Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 lb crab meat (lump crab or imitation crab works well)
  • 4 cups fresh spinach (about 4-5 cups)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional, or use chicken broth)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated (optional, for extra richness)
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking shrimp)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella (optional, for extra creaminess)

Instructions:

1. Cook the Shrimp:

  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until the shrimp are opaque and cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set them aside.

2. Sauté the Vegetables:

  • In the same skillet, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté for about 2-3 minutes, until softened and fragrant.
  • If using, pour in the white wine (or chicken broth) to deglaze the pan, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly.

3. Make the Creamy Sauce:

  • Reduce the heat to medium-low, then add the heavy cream and chicken broth. Stir to combine.
  • Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let the sauce simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

4. Add the Spinach and Crab:

  • Add the fresh spinach to the skillet in batches, allowing each batch to wilt before adding more. This should take 2-3 minutes.
  • Stir in the crab meat (break it apart with a spoon if using lump crab). Let it warm through for 2 minutes.

5. Finish the Dish:

  • Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet, stirring them into the creamy sauce and spinach mixture. Let everything simmer together for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
  • If you like a thicker, richer sauce, stir in the Parmesan cheese and/or shredded mozzarella at this point. This will melt into the sauce and give it an extra creamy texture.
  • Add lemon juice for a fresh, bright note and taste the sauce for seasoning, adjusting salt and pepper as needed.

6. Serve:

  • Garnish the Creamy Shrimp and Crab Spinach with fresh parsley (optional) and serve immediately.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with pasta, rice, quinoa, or even crusty bread for dipping into the rich sauce.

Tips for the Best Creamy Shrimp and Crab Spinach:

  • Shrimp: Use fresh, large shrimp for the best flavor and texture, but frozen shrimp works too. Just be sure to thaw them fully and pat them dry before cooking.
  • Crab Meat: If you can, use lump crab for the best texture and flavor. If using imitation crab, chop it into bite-sized pieces. You can also add more crab meat if you prefer a more seafood-forward dish.
  • Make it Spicy: Add hot sauce or extra red pepper flakes if you like a bit of spice in your creamy seafood dish.
  • Cream Alternatives: If you want a lighter version, you can use half-and-half or whole milk instead of heavy cream, though the sauce will be less rich.
  • Add Vegetables: Feel free to throw in additional vegetables like mushrooms or sun-dried tomatoes for extra flavor.

Serving Suggestions:

  • With Pasta: Serve this creamy shrimp and crab spinach mixture over linguine, fettuccine, or angel hair for a complete meal.
  • Over Rice: Serve it with fluffy white rice, brown rice, or even risotto to soak up the creamy sauce.
  • With Garlic Bread: Serve it with some garlic bread or crusty baguette for dipping into the creamy sauce.
  • Side Salad: Pair it with a fresh green salad or a simple Caesar salad for a light, balanced meal.

Creamy Shrimp and Crab Spinach is a decadent, flavorful dish that’s perfect for any seafood lover. The combination of shrimp, crab, spinach, and the creamy sauce is rich and comforting, and it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Enjoy!
