Dehydrating Marshmallows

Equipment Needed

  • Dehydrator or oven
  • Baking sheet (if using an oven)
  • Parchment paper (if using an oven)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marshmallows:
    • Choose the size of marshmallows you want to dehydrate. Mini marshmallows are popular, but regular-sized marshmallows can also be used.
    • If using regular marshmallows, you can cut them in half for faster drying.
  2. Using a Dehydrator:
    • Place the marshmallows in a single layer on the dehydrator trays.
    • Set the dehydrator to 135°F (57°C) and dehydrate for about 6-8 hours, or until they are completely dry and crunchy. Check occasionally for doneness.
  3. Using an Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to the lowest setting (usually around 170°F or 75°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the marshmallows in a single layer.
    • Place the baking sheet in the oven, leaving the door slightly ajar to allow moisture to escape. You can use a wooden spoon to prop the door open.
    • Bake for about 1-2 hours, checking periodically until the marshmallows are completely dry and crunchy.
  4. Cool and Store:
    • Once dehydrated, let the marshmallows cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container.
    • Store in a cool, dry place.

Tips

  • Dehydrated marshmallows can be used in trail mixes, hot chocolate, or as a crunchy topping for desserts.
  • They can also be rehydrated by adding them to warm liquids, making them soft again.
