Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (about 900 g) potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Prepare the Potatoes:

  • In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced potatoes, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.

3. Assemble the Bake:

  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer half of the potato mixture in the dish.
  • Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the potatoes.
  • Add the remaining potato mixture on top, followed by the remaining cheese.

4. Prepare the Cream Mixture:

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream, heavy cream, and melted butter. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered potatoes and cheese.

5. Bake:

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.

6. Serve:

  • Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. If desired, sprinkle with paprika for a touch of color.
