🌿 DIY $0 Plant Fertilizer (From Kitchen Scraps!)

You don’t need store-bought fertilizer to keep your plants thriving! These free, natural fertilizers use everyday kitchen scraps to boost growth, improve soil health, and save money.

🍌 1. Banana Peel Fertilizer (Potassium Boost)

Great for: Flowering plants, tomatoes, peppers.
How to make:

  1. Chop banana peels into small pieces.

  2. Option 1: Bury pieces directly in soil (they’ll decompose).

  3. Option 2: Soak peels in 1L water for 48 hrs, then use the water to fertilize.

Why it works: High in potassium, which helps with blooms and fruit production.

☕ 2. Coffee Grounds (Nitrogen & Acidity)

Great for: Acid-loving plants (roses, blueberries, azaleas).
How to use:

  • Sprinkle used coffee grounds on soil (don’t overdo it—mix with soil to avoid mold).

  • Or, steep in water for 24 hrs and use as liquid fertilizer.

Why it works: Adds nitrogen and improves soil texture.

🥚 3. Eggshell Fertilizer (Calcium Boost)

Great for: Tomatoes, peppers (prevents blossom-end rot).
How to make:

  1. Rinse and dry egg shells, then crush into powder.

  2. Sprinkle around plant bases or mix into soil.

Why it works: Provides calcium, which strengthens cell walls.

💦 4. “Garbage Tea” (All-Purpose Fertilizer)

Great for: Everything!
How to make:

  1. Fill a bucket with water + kitchen scraps (veggie peels, fruit scraps, herb stems).

  2. Let ferment 1–2 weeks (stir occasionally).

  3. Dilute (1:10 with water) and pour on plants.

Why it works: Packed with micronutrients and beneficial microbes.

🌱 Bonus: Grass Clippings (Nitrogen Mulch)

  • Spread fresh grass clippings around plants (thin layers only!).

  • Breaks down into free nitrogen-rich compost.

⚠️ Pro Tips

✔ Avoid meat/dairy scraps—they attract pests.
✔ Don’t over-fertilize—less is more!
✔ Compost first if you’re worried about odors.

Why This Works

✅ 100% free (no chemicals!).
✅ Reduces food waste.
✅ Improves soil long-term.

Your plants will thank you! 🌿

P.S. Save your rice/pasta water (cooled) for a mineral boost! 💧
