Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs lean ground beef

  • 1 tsp granulated garlic

  • 1 tsp kosher salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 cup diced onion

  • 2 cups Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce (store-bought or homemade)

  • Optional: 1 diced bell pepper (for extra flavor)

  • For serving: Hamburger buns, pickles, coleslaw

Instructions:

  1. Brown the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, until no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. Sauté Onions (and Bell Pepper): Add the diced onion (and bell pepper, if using) and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.

  3. Season: Stir in the granulated garlic, salt, and black pepper.

  4. Add Sauce: Pour in the Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce, stir well, and simmer for 10-15 minutes on low heat until thickened.

  5. Serve: Spoon the mixture onto toasted hamburger buns. Top with pickles or coleslaw if desired.

Homemade Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce Option:

If making your own sauce, combine:

  • 1 cup ketchup

  • 1 cup Dr. Pepper

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • Simmer until thickened (~15 min).
