Fried Bologna Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 slices thick-cut bologna (or regular)

  • 1-2 slices American cheese (or cheddar)

  • 2 slices white bread, Texas toast, or a bun

  • 1 tbsp butter (for frying & toasting)

  • Mustard (yellow or spicy brown)

  • Mayonnaise (optional)

  • Pickles (optional)

  • Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the bologna – Make a small slit (about 1-inch) from the center to the edge of each slice to prevent curling.

  2. Fry the bologna – Heat a skillet over medium heat, add 1/2 tbsp butter, and fry the bologna for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and slightly crispy. Press down with a spatula to keep it flat.

  3. Add cheese – Place a slice of cheese on one piece of bologna in the last minute of cooking to let it melt.

  4. Toast the bread – Spread the remaining butter on the bread and toast lightly in the same skillet until golden.

  5. Assemble – Spread mustard (and mayo if using) on the bread, add the fried bologna (with cheese), and top with pickles or hot sauce if desired.

Tips for the Best Sandwich:

  • Use thick-cut bologna for a meatier bite.

  • For extra crispiness, fry a little longer until the edges curl and darken.

  • Try adding caramelized onions or a fried egg for a heartier version.
