Posted on March 16, 2025

Grandma’s Irish Sugar Cookies 🍪🍀 are the perfect treat to add a little sweetness to any occasion, especially for St. Patrick’s Day! These cookies are soft, buttery, and full of flavor. Here’s how to make them:

Grandma’s Irish Sugar Cookies 🍪🍀

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar (plus additional for rolling)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients:

    • In a large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, powdered sugar, butter, and vegetable oil until smooth and fluffy. You can use a hand mixer or stand mixer for this step.
    • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture, beating until everything is well combined.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. You should have a soft dough.
  4. Shape the Cookies:

    • Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
    • Roll each dough ball in a little extra granulated sugar to coat the outside.
  5. Bake the Cookies:

    • Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
    • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Optional Decoration:

  • For an Irish twist, you can decorate the cookies with green sugar or sprinkles to make them festive for St. Patrick’s Day!
  • If you want a little more flair, try adding some green frosting or a drizzle of white chocolate for extra sweetness.

These Irish Sugar Cookies are a soft, sweet treat that will bring a smile to your face. Perfect for any occasion, especially St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀🍪 Enjoy!
