Gratin de Crevettes

Preparation Time:

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 25 minutes
  • Total Time: 45 minutes

Difficulty Level:

  • Medium

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking dish with a bit of olive oil or butter.
  2. Prepare Shrimp: Season the shrimp with salt and black pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook until pink and opaque, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Make Sauce: Pour the white wine into the skillet with the onions and garlic, and let it simmer until reduced by half. In a separate small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and cook until thickened, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in the Dijon mustard, nutmeg, and grated Gruyère cheese. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked shrimp to the cream sauce and stir to combine. Transfer the shrimp and sauce mixture to the greased baking dish.
  6. Top and Bake: In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the shrimp and sauce. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Serve: Remove the Gratin de Crevettes from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.
