🔥 Grilled Chicken Souvlaki Pita (Authentic Greek Street Food!)

This juicy, flavorful chicken souvlaki is marinated in lemon, garlic, and herbs, grilled to perfection, and stuffed into warm pita with creamy tzatziki, fresh veggies, and crispy fries—just like the streets of Athens!


⏲️ Prep Time: 20 mins (+1 hr marinating) | Cook Time: 10 mins | Serves: 4


📝 Ingredients

For the Chicken Souvlaki:

  • 1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs (or breasts), cut into 1-inch cubes

  • ¼ cup olive oil

  • ¼ cup lemon juice

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)

For Serving:

  • 4 pita breads (or GF flatbread)

  • Tzatziki sauce (see recipe below)

  • Sliced tomatoes, red onion, and cucumber

  • Hand-cut fries (or store-bought)

  • Fresh parsley or dill

  • Lemon wedges

Quick Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

  • ½ cucumber, grated and drained

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp dried dill (or fresh)

  • Salt & pepper to taste


👩🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Marinate the Chicken

  1. In a bowl, whisk olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and paprika.

  2. Add chicken, coat well, and marinate 1 hour (or overnight).

2️⃣ Grill the Souvlaki

  1. Thread chicken onto skewers (if using wooden, soak in water first).

  2. Grill on high heat 3-4 mins per side until charred and cooked through.

3️⃣ Warm the Pitas

  • Lightly grill or microwave pitas until soft.

4️⃣ Assemble

  1. Spread tzatziki inside each pita.

  2. Add chicken, veggies, and fries.

  3. Garnish with parsley and serve with lemon wedges.
