Chinese Ground Beef & Cabbage Stir Fry

Savory, slightly sweet, and packed with crisp-tender vegetables – a lighter alternative to takeout!

🥩 Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90% lean)

  • 1 small head green cabbage, thinly sliced (about 6 cups)

  • 1 large carrot, julienned

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated

  • 3 green onions, sliced (white and green parts separated)

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp honey or brown sugar

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Make sauce: Whisk together all sauce ingredients except cornstarch mixture. Set aside.

  2. Cook beef: Brown ground beef in large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, breaking it apart. Drain excess fat if needed.

  3. Add aromatics: Push beef to one side, add garlic, ginger and white parts of green onions. Cook 30 seconds until fragrant.

  4. Stir-fry veggies: Add cabbage and carrot. Stir-fry 4-5 minutes until slightly wilted but still crisp.

  5. Combine: Pour sauce over mixture, stir well. Add cornstarch slurry and cook 1-2 minutes until thickened.

  6. Finish: Garnish with green onion tops and extra sesame seeds if desired.

🍽 Serving Suggestions

  • Over brown rice or cauliflower rice for low-carb

  • With a sprinkle of extra red pepper flakes for heat

  • Drizzle with extra sesame oil before serving
