Making homemade butter with just one ingredient is simple and rewarding! Here’s how you can do it:

Homemade Butter (1 Ingredient)

Ingredients:

  • Heavy cream (whipping cream)

Instructions:

  1. Pour the Cream:
    • Pour 1 pint (16 oz) of heavy cream into a stand mixer, food processor, or jar if you’re using a hand mixer.
  2. Whip the Cream:
    • Start mixing at medium speed and gradually increase to high. If using a jar, shake vigorously.
    • After a few minutes, the cream will first turn into whipped cream, and then continue mixing until the butter separates from the buttermilk. This can take about 8-10 minutes in a mixer or food processor.
  3. Drain the Buttermilk:
    • Once the butter forms, you’ll see yellow clumps. Pour off the liquid buttermilk (you can save it for baking or cooking).
  4. Rinse the Butter:
    • Place the butter in a bowl and rinse it under cold water. Knead it gently with your hands or a spatula to remove any remaining buttermilk. Rinse until the water runs clear.
  5. Season (Optional):
    • If you like, you can add a pinch of salt to taste, but it’s optional since the butter is already delicious on its own!
  6. Store:
    • Transfer the butter to an airtight container and refrigerate. It can also be frozen for longer storage.
