Materials Needed:

  • 1 wooden pallet (sturdy, in good condition)

  • Saw (hand saw or circular saw)

  • Sandpaper (medium & fine grit) or sander

  • Measuring tape & pencil

  • Drill & screws (or nails)

  • Level

  • Wood stain or paint (optional)

  • Clear varnish or sealant (optional)

  • Mounting hardware (heavy-duty brackets, wall anchors, or French cleat for secure installation)

Steps:

1. Disassemble the Pallet (If Needed)

  • Remove any nails or staples from the pallet.

  • Carefully pry apart the pallet slats if you want a smoother, more polished look. Alternatively, you can keep the pallet intact for a rustic style.

2. Cut the Pallet to Size

  • Measure and mark your desired length (standard ballet barres are around 1.2m to 1.5m / 4ft to 5ft long).

  • Cut the pallet to size using a saw.

3. Sand the Wood

  • Sand all surfaces (especially the top edge, which will be used as the barre) to remove splinters and rough spots.

  • Round off the edges slightly for comfort.

4. Reinforce the Barre (Optional)

  • If using individual slats, attach them side by side with wood glue and screws for extra strength.

  • Add a support beam underneath if needed for stability.

5. Stain or Paint (Optional)

  • Apply wood stain, paint, or sealant for a finished look. Let it dry completely.

6. Mount the Barre to the Wall

  • Locate wall studs using a stud finder for the strongest hold.

  • Use heavy-duty brackets or a French cleat system to mount the barre securely.

  • Ensure the barre is level before finalizing installation.

  • The standard height for a ballet barre is around hip level (90cm–110cm / 35–43in) depending on user height.

7. Test for Stability

  • Apply gentle pressure to ensure the barre is firmly attached and can support weight.

Alternative Design:

If you want a freestanding barre, attach two pallets vertically as legs and secure them with cross beams for stability.

Tips:

✔ Use thicker pallet wood for durability.
✔ Add non-slip tape on top if needed.
✔ For a double barre, install a second pallet barre lower for kids or stretching.
