Italian Crescent Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 cup bell pepper, chopped (any color)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Cook the Meat and Vegetables:

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet, cooking until they are soft, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for a few minutes, then remove from heat.

3. Prepare the Crescent Roll Base:

  • Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it into the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, making sure to seal the seams.

4. Add the Filling:

  • Spread the ricotta cheese evenly over the crescent roll base.
  • Pour the meat and marinara mixture over the ricotta, spreading it evenly.

5. Add Cheese Toppings:

  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the casserole.

6. Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

7. Serve:

  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
