Ingredients

For the Jerk Steak and Shrimp:

  • Steak:
    • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, sliced into thin strips
    • 2 tablespoons jerk seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Shrimp:
    • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
    • 1 tablespoon jerk seasoning
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced

For the Yellow Rice:

  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth (or water)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak:
    • In a bowl, toss the steak strips with 2 tablespoons of jerk seasoning and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight in the fridge).
  2. Cook the Yellow Rice:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the rice, chicken broth, turmeric, salt, and bay leaf (if using). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.
  3. Cook the Steak:
    • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steak and cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Cook the Shrimp:
    • In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil and the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the shrimp and sprinkle with the remaining jerk seasoning. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.
  5. Combine:
    • Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the shrimp. Toss to combine and heat through for another minute.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the jerk steak and shrimp over a bed of yellow rice. You can garnish with sliced green onions or lime wedges if desired.

  • You can add veggies like bell peppers or onions to the skillet for extra flavor and color.
  • Adjust the amount of jerk seasoning based on your spice preference.
