My In-Laws Left My Mom at a Restaurant to Avoid Paying the Bill – Too Bad My Mom Had a Plan of Her Own
The Setup:
My in-laws are notoriously cheap. Like, “bring-your-own-napkins-to-a-wedding” cheap. So when they invited my mom and me out to dinner at a nice restaurant, I should’ve known something was up.
The Trap:
Halfway through the meal, my father-in-law “remembered” an “urgent call” he had to take. My mother-in-law followed, claiming she needed to “check on the car.” Next thing I knew, they were gone—leaving my mom and me with the bill.
My Mom’s Revenge:
My mom, a retired accountant, just smiled and pulled out her phone.
1️⃣ She called the restaurant manager—turns out, she’d slipped him her card when she went to the bathroom earlier and pre-authorized only our meals.
2️⃣ The in-laws’ orders? Still unpaid.
3️⃣ Their shocked faces when they got a call from the restaurant demanding payment? Priceless.
Bonus: My mom even left a tip—in cash—with a note: “For excellent service, not for people who dine and dash.”
Karma’s bill always comes due. 😏
