Not Yo’ Mama’s Banana Pudding

Posted on July 24, 2025

Here’s a decadent and creamy Not Yo’ Mama’s Banana Pudding recipe that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser! This version is rich, no-bake, and layers sweet vanilla pudding, cream cheese, whipped cream, and bananas with a buttery vanilla wafer or shortbread cookie twist.

Not Yo’ Mama’s Banana Pudding

*(Serves 10-12)*

Ingredients:

  • 2 (3.4 oz) boxes instant vanilla pudding mix

  • 4 cups cold whole milk

  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened

  • 1 (8 oz) tub whipped topping (Cool Whip), thawed (or 2 cups homemade whipped cream)

  • 4-5 ripe bananas, sliced

  • 1 (11 oz) box vanilla wafers or shortbread cookies (like Chessmen)

  • Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract, a pinch of salt

Instructions:

1. Make the Pudding Layer:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the pudding mixes and cold milk until thickened (~2 min).

  • Stir in the sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Cream Cheese Layer:

  • In another bowl, beat the cream cheese until fluffy (add 1 tsp vanilla if desired).

  • Fold in half of the whipped topping (about 4 oz) until combined.

3. Combine Pudding & Cream Cheese Mixtures:

  • Gently fold the cream cheese mixture into the pudding until smooth.

4. Layer the Pudding:

  • In a trifle dish or large bowl, layer:

    • Cookies: Line the bottom with vanilla wafers/shortbread.

    • Bananas: Add a layer of sliced bananas.

    • Pudding: Spread half the pudding mixture over the bananas.

    • Repeat layers (cookies → bananas → pudding).

  • Top with the remaining whipped topping.

5. Chill & Serve:

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (best overnight) to soften cookies.

  • Garnish with crushed cookies or banana slices before serving.

Tips:

  • For extra richness: Use homemade whipped cream instead of Cool Whip.

  • Prevent browning: Toss banana slices in a little lemon juice before layering.

  • Texture: For a softer pudding, let it sit 10+ hours before serving.

This Southern-style banana pudding is creamy, sweet, and addictive—perfect for potlucks or family gatherings! Let me know if you’d like any tweaks. 😊
