Nutella Tres Leches Chocolate Cake 🍫🥛

This decadent dessert combines rich chocolate cake soaked in a creamy Nutella tres leches mixture, topped with fluffy chocolate whipped cream. It’s an irresistible twist on classic tres leches!

Ingredients

1. Chocolate Cake Base

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix (use Devil’s Food or your favorite)

  • 1 cup milk (instead of water, for richness)

  • 3 eggs

  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 mins in a 9×13″ pan, then cool completely.

2. Nutella Tres Leches Soak

  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

  • ½ cup Nutella (warm slightly for easier mixing)

  • Whisk until smooth and Nutella is fully dissolved.

3. Chocolate Whipped Cream Topping

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (HWC), chilled

  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

  • *Whip to stiff peaks (about 3-4 mins).*

Instructions

  1. Bake the Cake

    • Prepare cake mix with milk, eggs, and oil (per box instructions, but swap water for milk).

    • Bake in a greased 9×13″ pan at 350°F for 20-25 mins (until a toothpick comes out clean).

    • Let cool completely (warm cake will absorb milk better).

  2. Poke & Soak

    • Use a fork or skewer to poke holes all over the cake.

    • Slowly pour the Nutella tres leches mixture over the cake, letting it soak in.

    • Refrigerate at least 2 hours (overnight is best!).

  3. Top & Serve

    • Spread chocolate whipped cream over the chilled cake.

    • Optional: Dust with cocoa powder, drizzle with melted Nutella, or add chocolate shavings.

    • Slice and enjoy cold!

Tips for Success

✔ Use full-fat dairy for the creamiest texture.
✔ Warm the Nutella slightly (10 sec in microwave) to blend smoothly into the milk mixture.
✔ Don’t skip chilling—this lets the cake fully absorb the tres leches.
✔ For extra flair, top with sliced strawberries, crushed hazelnuts, or chocolate curls.

Why This Works

  • The chocolate cake + Nutella soak is a match made in heaven—fudgy, moist, and not too sweet.

  • The cocoa whipped cream balances the richness perfectly.

  • Easier than traditional tres leches but just as impressive!

Perfect for birthdays, potlucks, or when you need a showstopping dessert with minimal effort.

Want a lighter version? Try swapping the Nutella for chocolate syrup or using lite coconut milk in the soak. Let me know if you’d like variations! 😊
