Old Fashioned Sour Cream Cake Donuts

Ingredients:
For the Donuts:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp. unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 2 large egg yolks
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Glaze:
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg.
- In a large bowl, beat the sugar and butter together until sandy.
- Add the egg yolks and mix until light and thick.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three additions, alternating with the sour cream, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. The dough will be sticky.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.
- Shape the Donuts:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness.
- Use a donut cutter to cut out the donuts. Gather the scraps, re-roll, and cut out additional donuts.
- Fry the Donuts:
- In a large heavy-bottomed pot, heat 2 inches of vegetable oil to 325°F (165°C).
- Fry the donuts a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the donuts to a wire rack set over a baking sheet to drain and cool.
- Make the Glaze:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Dip each donut into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off.
- Place the glazed donuts back on the wire rack to set.
- Serve:
