Onion Beef Fried Rice Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups cooked rice (preferably day-old and cold)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (e.g., carrots, peas, corn, or bell peppers)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Optional garnish: chopped green onions or sesame seeds

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the rice:
    • If using freshly cooked rice, spread it out on a tray and let it cool completely (or refrigerate for a few hours). Cold rice fries better and prevents the dish from becoming mushy.
  2. Cook the ground beef:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and cooked through, breaking it up into small pieces with a spatula. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté the vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
    • Add the mixed vegetables and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until they are tender-crisp.
  4. Combine everything:
    • Add the cooked rice to the skillet and stir to combine with the vegetables. Break up any clumps of rice with your spatula.
    • Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet and mix well.
  5. Add the sauces:
    • Drizzle the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil over the rice mixture. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, ensuring everything is evenly coated and heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve:
    • Transfer the fried rice to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use leftover rice: Day-old rice works best for fried rice because it’s drier and less sticky.
  • Customize the veggies: Add any vegetables you have on hand, such as broccoli, zucchini, or mushrooms.
  • Make it spicy: Add a dash of chili flakes or a drizzle of sriracha for a spicy kick.
  • Add eggs: Crack an egg into the skillet before adding the rice and scramble it for extra protein.

Enjoy this Onion Beef Fried Rice—it’s a quick, easy, and delicious meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights! Let me know if you’d like more fried rice variations. 😊
