Orange Pistachio Tiramisu

Posted on April 16, 2025

Orange Pistachio Tiramisu is a vibrant twist on the classic Italian dessert, featuring layers of citrusy mascarpone cream, espresso-dipped ladyfingers, and crunchy pistachios. The bright orange flavor pairs beautifully with the nuttiness of pistachios, while a hint of coffee ties it all together.

Ingredients:

For the Coffee Dip:

  • 1 cup strong brewed espresso or coffee, cooled
  • 2 tbsp orange liqueur (like Grand Marnier or Cointreau, optional)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

For the Mascarpone Filling:

  • 16 oz (2 cups) mascarpone cheese, room temperature
  • 3 large egg yolks (or 2 whole eggs for a no-raw-egg version)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped to stiff peaks

For Assembly:

  • 24-30 ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pistachios, plus more for garnish
  • Cocoa powder or melted dark chocolate for dusting
  • Orange zest or candied orange peel for garnish

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Coffee Dip:

  • Mix espresso, orange liqueur (if using), and sugar in a shallow bowl. Set aside.

2. Make the Mascarpone Filling:

  • In a bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick (or use whole eggs for a safer version).
  • Add mascarpone, vanilla, orange zest, and orange juice, mixing until smooth.
  • Gently fold in whipped cream until fully combined.

3. Assemble the Tiramisu:

  • Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture (don’t oversoak—just 1-2 seconds per side).
  • Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in a 9×9 dish or individual glasses.
  • Spread half the mascarpone filling over the ladyfingers, then sprinkle with chopped pistachios.
  • Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers, mascarpone, and pistachios.

4. Chill & Serve:

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours (best overnight).
  • Before serving, dust with cocoa powder or drizzle with melted chocolate, then garnish with extra pistachios and orange zest.

Variations:

  • Non-alcoholic: Skip the liqueur and add 1 tsp orange extract.
  • Nut-free: Replace pistachios with toasted coconut or omit.
  • Extra decadence: Add a layer of orange marmalade between the mascarpone layers.

This dessert is a showstopper with its balance of citrus, coffee, and nutty crunch! Let me know if you’d like any tweaks. 😊🍊
