Here’s a delicious recipe for a classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich!

Philly Cheesesteak Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced (you can also use flank steak)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper (green or red), sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz for a classic touch)
  • 4 hoagie rolls or Italian sandwich rolls
  • Optional: hot sauce or sautéed mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak:
    • If your steak is not pre-sliced, partially freeze it for about 30 minutes for easier slicing. Slice the steak as thinly as possible against the grain.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables:
    • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until softened. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the Steak:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the sliced steak. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 3-5 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  4. Combine and Melt:
    • Return the sautéed onions and peppers to the skillet with the steak. Mix well and then layer the cheese slices on top. Cover the skillet for a minute to allow the cheese to melt.
  5. Assemble the Sandwiches:
    • Toast the hoagie rolls if desired. Divide the steak mixture among the rolls, ensuring each gets a good amount of the melted cheese.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve hot, with optional toppings like hot sauce or sautéed mushrooms.
