Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli

Ingredients:

  • For the Filling:
    • 1 pound ribeye steak or flank steak, thinly sliced
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 medium onion, sliced
    • 1 bell pepper (green or red), sliced
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
    • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced (or cheese of your choice)
  • For the Stromboli:
    • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
    • 1 egg (for egg wash)
    • 1 tablespoon water
    • Italian seasoning (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
    • In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced steak. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Return the vegetables to the skillet and mix everything together. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Roll Out the Dough:
    • On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle (about 12×16 inches).
  4. Assemble the Stromboli:
    • Layer the cooked steak, onions, and peppers on one half of the dough. Top with slices of provolone cheese.
    • Fold the other half of the dough over the filling, and pinch the edges to seal. You can also roll the edges to ensure they are secure.
  5. Egg Wash:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush the egg wash over the top of the stromboli to give it a golden finish. You can also sprinkle Italian seasoning on top for added flavor.
  6. Bake:
    • Cut a few slits on top of the stromboli to allow steam to escape. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Serve:
    • Allow the stromboli to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping if desired.

Enjoy your hearty Philly cheesesteak stromboli!
