Ingredients

  • 12 tbsp all-purpose flour (about ¾ cup)
  • 12 tbsp granulated sugar (about ¾ cup)
  • 12 tbsp whole milk (¾ cup)
  • 12 tbsp vegetable oil (¾ cup)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Zest of 1 lemon or orange (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round or square cake pan.

2. Mix the Wet Ingredients:

  • In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Add the milk, vegetable oil, and lemon/orange zest (if using). Mix well.

3. Combine the Dry Ingredients:

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until the batter is smooth and lump-free.

4. Pour and Bake:

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

5. Cool and Serve:

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Tips:

  • Serve plain or with a dollop of whipped cream, fresh fruit, or a drizzle of honey.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute 2 tablespoons of milk with 2 tablespoons of liqueur (e.g., limoncello or amaretto).
