Slow Cooker Cabbage Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cabbage:
    • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
    • Carefully remove the core of the cabbage.
    • Place the cabbage in the boiling water for a few minutes, until the outer leaves start to soften and peel off easily.
    • Remove the leaves and repeat until you have about 12-14 large leaves. Set them aside to cool.
  2. Make the Filling:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, paprika, and dried dill. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  3. Assemble the Cabbage Rolls:
    • Lay a cabbage leaf flat on a clean surface. Place about 1/4 cup of the filling mixture at the base of the leaf.
    • Fold in the sides and roll up the leaf tightly, securing the filling inside. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
  4. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and lemon juice.
  5. Load the Slow Cooker:
    • Pour a small amount of the sauce into the bottom of the slow cooker.
    • Place the cabbage rolls seam side down in the slow cooker, layering them as needed.
    • Pour the remaining sauce over the top of the cabbage rolls.
  6. Cook:
    • Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
  7. Serve:
    • Carefully remove the cabbage rolls from the slow cooker.
    • Spoon some of the sauce over the top of the rolls.
    • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
