Smothered Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or your favorite herbs)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Chicken:

  • Season the chicken with salt and pepper on both sides.

2. Brown the Chicken:

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

3. Sauté the Onions and Garlic:

  • In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

4. Make the Sauce:

  • Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  • Stir in the heavy cream (or milk), thyme, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer.

5. Return the Chicken:

  • Return the browned chicken to the skillet. Cover and cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).

6. Serve:

  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot, along with your favorite sides like rice, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables.
