✨ So Soft & Buttery Homemade Dinner Rolls ✨

Your family will beg for these pillowy, melt-in-your-mouth rolls! Perfect for holidays, Sunday dinners, or any cozy meal.

⏰ Time

  • Prep: 20 mins (+1.5 hrs rising)
  • Bake: 20-25 mins
  • Total: ~2.5 hrs
  • Makes: 12-16 rolls

📝 Ingredients

Dough:

  • 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour (+ extra for dusting)
  • 2 tsp (7g) instant yeast (or active dry yeast*)
  • 3 tbsp (36g) sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups (300ml) warm water or milk (110°F/43°C)
  • ¼ cup (60ml) neutral oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ½ tsp salt

For Brushing:

  • 2 tbsp (30g) melted butter (or egg wash: 1 egg + 1 tbsp water)
  • Flaky sea salt (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Dough

  1. Activate yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water/milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5-10 mins until frothy (skip if using instant yeast).
  2. Combine wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk oil, eggs, and yeast mixture.
  3. Add dry ingredients: Gradually mix in flour and salt until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead: Turn onto a floured surface and knead 8-10 mins until smooth and elastic (or use a stand mixer with dough hook).

2️⃣ First Rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled.

3️⃣ Shape the Rolls

  1. Punch down dough and divide into 12-16 equal pieces (use a kitchen scale for precision).
  2. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish (or round pan for pull-apart style).
  3. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 mins until puffy.

4️⃣ Bake

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Brush rolls with melted butter (or egg wash for shine).
  • Bake 20-25 mins until golden brown.
  • Brush with more butter right after baking for extra softness!

🌟 Pro Tips

  • Fluffier rolls: Replace ½ cup flour with bread flour for more chew.
  • Make ahead: Refrigerate shaped rolls overnight for a slow second rise—bake straight from the fridge!
  • Herb variation: Add 1 tsp garlic powder + 2 tbsp chopped parsley to the dough.

🍽 Serving Ideas

  • Holiday-worthy: Serve with honey butter or cranberry sauce.
  • Savory twist: Stuff with garlic butter or cheese before baking.
  • Leftovers? Use for sliders or bread pudding!

These rolls stay soft for days (if they last that long!). Enjoy the buttery magic! 🧈💛

Need a vegan version? Swap eggs for ½ cup applesauce and use plant-based milk! 😊
