Southern Cheese Crackers

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (200g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (or cayenne pepper for a spicier kick)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 tbsp cold water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheddar cheese, softened butter, flour, salt, paprika (or cayenne pepper), and garlic powder (if using). Mix until the dough starts to come together.
    • Add the cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough forms a ball.
  3. Shape the crackers:
    • Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 teaspoon each) and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Use a fork to gently press down on each ball to flatten slightly and create a crisscross pattern.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  5. Cool and serve:
    • Let the crackers cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
