Stovetop Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • 3/4 cup milk (or water)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (if using). Mix well.
    • Add the milk and olive oil (or melted butter). Stir until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 2-3 minutes until smooth. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.
  3. Shape the Bread:
    • Divide the dough into smaller portions (you can make 4-6 pieces) and shape each piece into a round or flat shape, about 1/2 inch thick.
  4. Preheat the Pan:
    • Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium-low heat. You can lightly grease the pan if desired.
  5. Cook the Bread:
    • Place the shaped dough into the skillet (work in batches if necessary). Cook for about 5-7 minutes on one side, or until golden brown. Flip and cook for another 5-7 minutes on the other side.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Once cooked, remove the bread from the skillet and let it cool on a wire rack or a plate. Serve warm with butter, jam, or your favorite spread.
