Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Stovetop Cake that you can easily make without an oven!
Stovetop Cake Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate cake) or leave out for vanilla
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- Optional: chocolate chips or fruit for added flavor
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan:
- Use a heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet with a lid. Grease the bottom and sides with butter or oil. If you have a trivet or steaming rack, place it at the bottom of the pot.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder (if using), baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add Wet Ingredients:
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay. If desired, fold in chocolate chips or fruit.
- Pour Batter:
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Cook on Stovetop:
- Cover the pot with a lid and place it over low to medium-low heat. Cook for about 30-40 minutes. Avoid opening the lid too often, as this will let heat escape. You can check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
- Cool and Serve:
- Once done, remove the cake from the pot and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve as is or with your favorite frosting or toppings.
Enjoy!
This Stovetop Cake is a versatile and convenient dessert. Enjoy it warm or at room temperature!
