Texas Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Cake:
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Cake:
  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Mix the Wet Ingredients:
In a large bowl, beat the granulated sugar and melted butter together until smooth and well combined.

  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

  6. Bake the Cake:
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

  7. Cool:
Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan on a wire rack.

2. Optional Frosting (Classic Texas Cake usually includes frosting):

You can frost your Texas Cake with a simple chocolate frosting or a buttercream frosting. Here’s a quick chocolate frosting recipe:

For the Frosting (optional):

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions for Frosting:

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the milk and cocoa powder and stir until smooth.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Mix until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
  3. Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.

Tips:

  • Buttermilk Substitute: If you don’t have buttermilk, you can substitute it with regular milk mixed with 1 tbsp of vinegar or lemon juice. Let it sit for a few minutes before using.
  • Add-ins: For extra flavor, consider adding chopped nuts (like pecans) or chocolate chips to the cake batter.
  • Serving Tip: Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert!

This Texas Cake is simple yet incredibly flavorful, perfect for any occasion. Enjoy making it and sharing this delicious treat! 🍰
