Three-Cheese Quiche Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the crust:
    • 1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
    • OR, if you prefer a crustless quiche, simply skip the crust.
  • For the filling:
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil (if adding veggies or meat)
    • 1 small onion, finely diced (optional)
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1/2 cup whole milk
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (or fresh thyme, optional)
    • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
    • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Pie Crust:

  • For a Store-Bought Crust: If using a store-bought pie crust, simply place it in your pie dish and set it aside. If you like, you can pre-bake the crust at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes to prevent it from getting soggy, but this is optional.
  • For a Homemade Crust: Roll out your pie dough and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Refrigerate the crust for 15 minutes before baking to prevent shrinkage.

2. Prepare the Filling:

  1. Sauté Vegetables (Optional): If you’re adding vegetables (like onions, spinach, or mushrooms), heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion (or other veggies) and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Whisk Eggs and Cream: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, and milk until smooth. Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried thyme (if using). Mix well.
  3. Add the Cheese: Stir in the shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until evenly distributed.

3. Assemble the Quiche:

  1. Add Veggies/Meat (Optional): If you’re adding sautéed veggies (like onions or spinach) or cooked meats (like bacon or ham), layer them at the bottom of the pie crust.
  2. Pour in the Egg Mixture: Pour the prepared egg and cheese mixture over the veggies or meat in the pie crust, spreading it out evenly.

4. Bake the Quiche:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the quiche for 35-45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden brown. To test for doneness, insert a knife or toothpick into the center of the quiche; it should come out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.

5. Cool and Serve:

  • Allow the quiche to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This will help the filling set and make it easier to cut clean slices.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

Storage:

  • Refrigeration: Leftover quiche can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container.
  • Freezing: You can also freeze quiche for up to 1-2 months. Let it cool completely, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and freeze. To reheat, bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven for about 20-25 minutes or until heated through.

Tips & Variations:

  • Add-ins: Feel free to add other ingredients like sautéed spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, ham, or crumbled bacon. You can also try adding fresh herbs like parsley, chives, or basil.
  • Crustless Option: For a lower-carb version, you can make this a crustless quiche. Simply skip the pie crust and bake the egg and cheese mixture directly in a greased pie dish.
  • Cheese Variations: You can experiment with different cheeses based on your taste preferences. Gruyère, goat cheese, or Swiss cheese would be delicious alternatives to the cheeses listed.
  • Make Ahead: This quiche is perfect for meal prep. You can assemble it the night before and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to bake the next day. Alternatively, you can bake it ahead of time, refrigerate it, and reheat it when ready to serve.

Serving Suggestions:

  • For a brunch spread: Serve the quiche with a side of fresh fruit, a simple green salad with a light vinaigrette, or roasted potatoes.
  • For a light dinner: Pair it with a crisp side salad or some roasted vegetables for a well-rounded meal.

This Three-Cheese Quiche is rich, flavorful, and sure to impress at any meal. Whether you’re serving it for breakfast, brunch, or dinner, it’s a versatile and delicious option that everyone will love! Enjoy!
