Vintage Oven-Baked Peach Cobbler

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 40 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour

Servings: 6

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups fresh or canned peach slices (drained)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • If using fresh peaches, peel and slice them. If using canned peaches, drain them thoroughly.
  2. Making the Batter:
    • In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    • Slowly add the milk to the dry ingredients, stirring until you have a smooth batter.
  3. Preparing the Cobbler:
    • Place the butter in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
    • Put the dish in the preheated oven until the butter is melted, about 5 minutes.
    • Remove the dish from the oven and pour the batter evenly over the melted butter. Do not stir.
    • Arrange the peach slices on top of the batter. Again, do not stir. The batter will rise around the peaches during baking.
  4. Baking:
    • Sprinkle ground cinnamon and nutmeg over the top if desired.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the batter comes out clean.
  5. Serving:
    • Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving.
    • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
