Watermelon Sea Turtle

Ingredients:

  • 1 large watermelon (for the turtle’s shell)
  • 4 smaller pieces of watermelon (for the legs and head)
  • A melon baller (optional, for scooping out the fruit)
  • A knife and carving tools

Instructions:

1. Prepare the watermelon shell:

  • Begin by slicing the watermelon in half, then cut one half into quarters. You’ll use one quarter for the turtle’s shell.
  • Cut the rounded side of the quartered watermelon to create a flat base, so the watermelon stays stable while you work.

2. Carve the turtle shell:

  • Use a knife to carve a curved, turtle-like shape on the top of the watermelon quarter. The bottom should be flat to ensure it stays stable.

3. Create the turtle’s head:

  • Cut a small piece of watermelon (about 1-2 inches) and shape it into a rounded head.
  • Attach it to the larger watermelon shell with a toothpick or secure it using the rind.

4. Carve the turtle’s legs:

  • Cut four pieces from the smaller watermelons for the legs (each around 2-3 inches).
  • Shape each piece into a round or oval shape, and attach them around the watermelon shell using toothpicks or simply carving into the watermelon skin.

5. Optional – Add texture:

  • If you want to make the turtle’s shell look more textured, you can use a melon baller to scoop out some of the inner flesh of the watermelon and make small indents in the outer part of the shell.

6. Serve:

  • Once your turtle is assembled, you can scoop out the extra watermelon flesh to use in fruit salads or for carving smaller pieces to place inside the turtle’s body as “filling.”

7. Decorate (optional):

  • You can add edible googly eyes, or use small pieces of other fruit like blueberries, grapes, or strawberries for the eyes and added color.

This Watermelon Sea Turtle is not only a fun way to serve fruit but also a beautiful centerpiece for any party! It’s a fantastic way to get kids involved in helping with the fruit carving too! Enjoy the refreshing treat! 🐢🍉
