Delicious Marble Cake

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk

For the Chocolate Swirl:

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (optional, or adjust to taste)

Instructions:

1. Preheat and Prepare the Pan:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

3. Cream the Butter and Sugar:

  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

4. Add the Dry Ingredients and Milk:

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients in 2-3 additions, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined after each addition.

5. Prepare the Chocolate Swirl:

  • In a separate bowl, mix the cocoa powder, hot water, and granulated sugar (if using) until smooth and well combined.

6. Create the Marble Effect:

  • Take half of the prepared vanilla batter and spread it evenly in the bottom of the prepared pan(s).
  • Add the chocolate mixture to the remaining batter and stir gently to combine.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the chocolate batter over the vanilla batter in the pan. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the two batters together, creating a marble effect.

7. Bake the Cake:

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes (for a 9×13-inch pan) or 25-30 minutes (for 9-inch round pans) or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. Cool and Serve:

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once the cake is cooled, you can serve it as is, or dust it with powdered sugar or frost with your favorite icing (cream cheese frosting or chocolate ganache works wonderfully).

Tips:

  • Make it Richer: If you want a richer chocolate flavor, you can add an extra 1/4 cup of cocoa powder to the chocolate mixture.
  • Make it a Layer Cake: To make a layered marble cake, divide the batter evenly between two pans and layer the batters to create more swirl action.
  • Storage: Keep leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. It can also be refrigerated for up to a week.
