Magic Custard Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (360ml) lukewarm water
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking dish.
  2. Mix the Batter:
    • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until combined. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
    • Stir in the milk, flour, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  3. Add Water:
    • Gradually whisk in the lukewarm water until fully incorporated. The batter will be quite thin.
  4. Bake:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake for about 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and set. The cake will rise and create a lovely custard layer underneath.
  5. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the cake to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to help it set.
    • Once chilled, dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving.
