Pecan Praline Cake Recipe

This indulgent pecan praline cake combines the rich flavors of buttery pecans with a moist, tender cake and a luscious praline topping. Perfect for special occasions or anytime you want a Southern-inspired treat!

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 box butter pecan cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (toasted)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Praline Topping:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cake

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish (or two 8-inch round cake pans for layered cakes).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, sour cream, eggs, vegetable oil, water, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. Fold in the toasted pecans.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and smooth the top with a spatula.

2. Bake

  1. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

3. Make the Praline Topping

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the brown sugar and heavy cream. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. The topping will thicken slightly as it cools.

4. Assemble the Cake

  1. Once the cake is completely cool, pour the praline topping evenly over the top of the cake.
  2. Garnish with additional chopped pecans, if desired.

5. Serve

  • Allow the praline topping to set for about 15–20 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve at room temperature with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra decadence.

Enjoy this heavenly pecan praline cake! It’s guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser. Let me know if you’d like ideas for complementary beverages or alternate presentation options. 😊
