This indulgent pecan praline cake combines the rich flavors of buttery pecans with a moist, tender cake and a luscious praline topping. Perfect for special occasions or anytime you want a Southern-inspired treat!
Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1 box butter pecan cake mix
- 1 cup chopped pecans (toasted)
- 1 cup sour cream
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Praline Topping:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Cake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish (or two 8-inch round cake pans for layered cakes).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, sour cream, eggs, vegetable oil, water, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Fold in the toasted pecans.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and smooth the top with a spatula.
2. Bake
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
3. Make the Praline Topping
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the brown sugar and heavy cream. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. The topping will thicken slightly as it cools.
4. Assemble the Cake
- Once the cake is completely cool, pour the praline topping evenly over the top of the cake.
- Garnish with additional chopped pecans, if desired.
5. Serve
- Allow the praline topping to set for about 15–20 minutes before slicing.
- Serve at room temperature with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra decadence.
